An advisory commission of experts on the pandemic in the Netherlands has recommended the imposition of a partial lockdown in the country – the first in Western Europe since the summer.

In the past 24 hours, the authorities have reported 16,364 infected – nearly 3,700 more than the previous day, TASS reported.

Many developed countries have said that lockdowns are no longer needed because of vaccination, although cases of infection have risen sharply to record levels.
Last month, the average age of unvaccinated patients with COVID-19 in Dutch hospitals was 59 years, compared to 77 years of those vaccinated, according to data from the local Institute of Public Health.
The Austrian government today increased threats to impose quarantine measures on people who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19, at a time of significant growth in new cases in the country, the Associated Press and DPA reported.
“It is already clear that this winter and Christmas there will be inconvenience for the unvaccinated,” said Chancellor Alexander Schalenberg. According to him, it may be a matter of days before a strict curfew is introduced for the unvaccinated.
Austria has taken a number of measures in recent weeks to limit the spread of the coronavirus and encourage more people to be vaccinated.
