The announcement sparked an uproar on Twitter on the evening of July 20. Several posters were stuck on the doors of the Haguenau public hospital, located in the Bas-Rhin. From August 1, the latter indicate, the hospital intends to welcome only people with a health pass. People who do not have one have alerted themselves to their possibility of accessing medical care in an emergency.
“Coronavirus locker, from August, the presence of the health pass will be mandatory to enter the Haguenau hospital”, mentions the poster, written in bold and red. However, the law concerning the places for which the French will have to present a health pass does not yet specify that hospitals must request one.
The decree of July 19, in the Official Journal, does not mention the hospital either.
The hospital defends itself
Attacked from all sides on social networks, the hospital defends itself: “The health pass is not compulsory. We only relayed the President’s announcements, to warn the population that they were not caught unawares on August 1. For the moment, we are awaiting national directives, we have no more information on what to do next, ”explains Magalye Haeffele, assistant to the director of North Alsace hospital cooperation.
According to Ms. Haeffele, this action was carried out jointly with the hospitals of Wissembourg and Bischwiller, which also put up posters.
“The hospital does not play politics”
“We will apply what the texts tell us, but since the start of the pandemic, we have been treating all those requiring care,” adds the assistant.
“The hospital does not play politics, we will remain a reception establishment, we must stay in the right direction, we will continue to treat people,” she underlines.
Since the outcry on Twitter, a dozen people overwhelmed by this measure have tried to reach the hospital. “We are not trying to restrict freedoms, our mission is to treat,” explains the assistant.
