Covid-19: France records more than 100,000 new cases in 24 hours, an absolute record

France crossed the threshold of 100,000 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours on Saturday, Christmas Day, unprecedented, while the government must reassess the situation on Monday.

With 104,611 new cases in 24 hours, the country has reached an unprecedented threshold since the start of the epidemic in March 2020, according to figures published Saturday evening by Public Health France. The 50,000 mark was passed on December 4 and this figure has therefore doubled in three weeks, according to data from the health agency.

Public Health France also reports in its latest bulletin 760 new hospitalizations in the last 24 hours (against 816 a week ago), or 1,217 new hospitalizations per day on average over the last 7 days.

160 patients have been admitted to intensive care in the last 24 hours (against 190 a week ago). The country has a total of 16,162 people hospitalized for a coronavirus infection, including 3,282 in intensive care, according to the latest data published by Public Health France.
