71-year-old Panenka made his name in the history of football in the final of the 1976 European Championships in Belgrade with a victorious post-match stroke against Czechoslovakia against West Germany.

A pass to the side pulled the defense out of position which let Zeps Maiers slip through on goal. This was Czechoslovakia’s first and only European champion title.

Many players have imitated Panenka’s 11-meter shot technique, including Zinedin Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final, but this is a risk as the goalkeeper may stay in the middle of the goal and react to the shot.

Panenka also won two Austrian championships with the Vienna Rapid and is currently the Honorary President of the Bohemians.
