COVID-19: first death in Bas-Saint-Laurent

A first death in Bas-Saint-Laurent linked to COVID-19 was confirmed late Wednesday by the Ministry of Health.

The victim is an elderly person who was returning from a trip. His place of residence has not been disclosed for reasons of confidentiality.

This case is one of two deaths announced by Prime Minister François Legault in his press briefing in the early afternoon.

The number of coronavirus cases is now six in Bas-Saint-Laurent. The majority of those infected are in solitary confinement at home. Their condition does not require hospitalization.

The director of public health for Bas-Saint-Laurent wanted to remind citizens of the importance of respecting the measures in place to limit the spread of the virus in the region. In particular, the quarantine instructions would not be observed by all travelers returning from abroad.

“Today, contamination will be more difficult if everyone respects isolation. The sacrifice that is asked of many people to stay at home, not to work, unfortunately, in many cases, it is a huge sacrifice. This is the price we must pay to reduce transmission, “said Dr. Sylvain Leduc, director of public health for the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

Two hundred and thirteen people from Bas-Saint-Laurent are awaiting a result after having passed a screening test for COVID-19.
