The fire department of the City of Lévis had 15 firefighters in isolation due to COVID-19 on Monday, out of a workforce of around 180 people.

Among this number, there are three positive cases and eight people awaiting a result, confirmed a spokesperson for the fire safety service.

The service also has four firefighters in administrative isolation after one or more members of their family bubble contracted the virus.

The chief of operations of the fire service, Patrick Vallières, mentioned that there is no outbreak within his teams. “These are all isolated cases, people who have children or family members who have contracted the virus,” he said.

Due to waiting times for screening appointments, no firefighter was able to have a PCR test. The so-called positive cases were discovered using rapid tests and will need to be confirmed at a screening center.

Mr. Vallières also recalled that his service introduced very rigorous health measures from the first wave of COVID-19.

“We have been in prevention mode since the first wave”, he stressed, adding that the service strictly monitors the appearance of symptoms in its employees and that these isolated cases do not pose any danger to the safety of the municipality. .

The Lévis firefighters have also all received their third dose of vaccine against the virus.
