In turn, it is important to mention that the fourth dose is applied once five months have elapsed since the third dose; otherwise, it does not proceed.

María Elena Martínez, director of Immunizations of the Ministry of Health, reminded the public that the protection of each dose is not eternal, which is why reinforcements are required from time to time.

“Three to four months after receiving the second dose, the protection of our immune system declines against covid-19 and is left unprotected. That is why we need to receive a third dose and a fourth dose, ”he said in an interview with the program. Andean Up To Date.

HOW IS THE VACCINE DISTRIBUTED?

The expert explained that the vaccine that is administered to children between 5 and 11 years of age is always Pfizer, in accordance with the plan and the directives of the Ministry of Health. For young people from 12 to 17 years old, the vaccine from the same laboratory is also considered.

Those over the age of 18 can get Pfizer, Astrazeneca, Sinopharm, or Moderna. In this group, the vaccine brands change according to the dose they should receive.
