There is a higher risk of stillbirth for pregnant women with Covid-19, study.

GridHEALTH.id — The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report on Friday examining 1.2 million deliveries at 736 hospitals nationwide from March 2020 to September 2021.

As a result, there is a risk of stillbirth (stillbirth) was higher for pregnant women with Covid-19 compared to uninfected women and the risk jumped to four times higher with the Delta variant, according to their data.

In developed countries where maternal nutrition is more concerned, stillbirths are extremely rare overall, accounting for a total of 8,154 among all deliveries.

But the researchers found that for women with Covid-19, about 1 in 80 deliveries resulted in stillbirth. Among the uninfected, it is 1 in 155.

Among those suffering from Covid-19, stillborn it is more common in people with chronic high blood pressure and other complications, including those in intensive care or on a breathing machine.

“These findings underscore the importance of COVID-19 prevention strategies, including vaccination before or during pregnancy,” said CDC researcher Carla DeSisto and co-authors.

There is no information on how many have received the Covid-19 shot, although the authors note that vaccination rates in the United States among pregnant people after the Delta variant emerged, are among the highest in the world at 30% through September 2021.

Pregnant people with Covid-19 are more likely than others to develop severe, even fatal disease, and they face an increased risk of premature birth and other complications.

Previous studies of stillbirth and Covid-19 had mixed findings, but the report raised concerns among obstetricians.
