The number of daily contaminations has been falling for a few days while hospitalizations continue to climb. If several scientists believe that the peak of this new wave should arrive in the middle of the summer holidays, the Head of State declared this Thursday that it “is in the process of being passed”.
Asked about the Covid-19 pandemic during the July 14 interview, Emmanuel Macron was confident: The peak is being passed
. According to the Head of State, the seventh wave would be falling. What is it really ?
On Wednesday July 13, 127,642 positive cases were identified. That’s a lot, almost at the peak of the sixth wave, but that’s down from a week ago. The seven-day average of cases is also decreasing for the third day in a row and now reaches just over 123,000 daily contaminations.
Downward contamination
The seventh wave which started at the beginning of June, with lemergence of the BA.5 variant accelerated until the end of June. Then, until July 10, the increase in contamination gradually slowed down. For three days, the cases have therefore started to fall again and this fall seems to be accelerating.
The slope is however to be confirmed in the coming days. Moreover, the Minister of Health was cautious, Wednesday July 13 on RTL . It looks like we are most likely reaching the peak. […] Now we don’t know if it’s going to be a long extended plateau or if it’s going to go down
, said François Braun.

Hospitalizations still on the rise
During its epidemiological update of July 14Santé Publique France also recalls that the virus is continuing at a very high level throughout the territory
and new hospital and critical care admissions were up sharply
. Indeed, hospital indicators are progressing rapidly since 19,580 people are hospitalized for Covid-19 and 1,184 have been admitted to critical care.

Note that even if the drop in cases is confirmed, the trend should take several days to reverse in the hospital. The curve of hospitalizations always having a little delay on that of contaminations. We are going to have an impact on the healthcare system which will be rather late July but which could be controlled
said Monday, July 11 on France Inter Jean-François Delfraissy, President of the Scientific Council.
