Covid-19 Does Not Kill TB and HIV, Minister of State for Strategies Other Than Vaccines

JAKARTA- The government is preparing steps and strategies to control Covid-19 for the transition from a pandemic to an epidemic. The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) said that there were several things to do in addition to reducing the rate of transmission through the Covid-19 health protocol and the implementation of vaccinations.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin revealed that detection and hospital care facilities are one of the strategies that play an important role. Because, in turning a pandemic into an epidemic vaccination is not the only strategy.

“One desperate strategy includes nursing at the hospital. The important thing in front of detection. Well, vaccination is one of them not the only strategy,” he said at a virtual Wealth Wisdom 2021 event, Saturday (18/9).

Budi reminded again, in order to immediately end the pandemic, people must always apply the 3 M’s, namely wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance. In addition, detection is carried out with 3 T, namely Testing, Tracing, and Treatment.

“We wear masks, it will reduce the transmission rate by 95 percent. Why do we have to Test, Tracing, and Treatment. Because we test it quickly, we know who has been infected, the tracing is fast, we know who is infected, we isolate quickly, reducing the rate of transmission,” he explained.

In addition, Budi also invites the public to immediately vaccinate so that human antibodies can adapt when exposed. Thus, it can shorten the duration of healing from 14 days and minimize the risk of death.

Budi added that turning a pandemic into an endemic is not as easy as turning the palm of the hand. Because, in the history of a pandemic nothing is finished quickly.

“Black death tens of millions died, then in the world war there was the Spanish flu, then there was polio, smallpox. The fastest is 5 years, polio may be hundreds of years old and it’s still not finished yet,” he said.

Budi ensured that the Covid-19 virus was not as deadly as TB and HIV. However, rapid transmission is a special danger in itself. Because, the potential for healing due to exposure is 80 percent self-medicating, 20 percent admitted to the hospital, 5 percent admitted to the ICU, and 2 percent died. (jpg)
