Soon deconfined, as announced by the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, this Thursday, April 22, 2021, the Loire remains marked by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is one of the 13 departments where the incidence rate remains above 400 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Saint Etienne is even back on the podium of the metropolises where the virus circulates the most, in front of Lyon.
A incidence rate which is declining in the department therefore but remains high, at 407 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, almost as much as the Rhône (408), and much more than the national average of 330. The number of positive cases recorded drops to 444 per day.
Still 600,000 Ligériens to be vaccinated
Hospital pressure has dropped, but it remains high, at 109% of initial resuscitation capacity. With a tendency to slow down which takes longer to emerge. Some 593 patients are currently hospitalized for Covid-19 in the Loire, including 83 in resuscitation. Five people a day died from the pandemic last week in the department.
It is always in young children (0-9 years) and older children (+60 years) that we find the least contamination. The closure of schools and the orientation of the vaccination campaign aimed at the most vulnerable may explain this trend.
The vaccination rate is now 21.09%, or just over 160,000 people out of the 760,000 Ligériens. So that there are still 600,000 inhabitants to be vaccinated.
Note that the Loire is one of the departments under surveillance, where the start of the school year will be with a special protocol.
