Covid-19 / Day was diagnosed in skeleton and bobsleigh participants prior to PK stages

Despite the strict antiviral measures, the first patients were diagnosed in Sigulda before the start of the World Cup.

“Currently, we must not call specific numbers, because it is sensitive information,” Janika Judeika, the director of the Sigulda stage race, said about the Covid-19 infected LTV, “However, such cases have been identified for us.”

In a conversation with LTV, Martins Dukurs says that for one of the Austrian skeletonists, the Covid-19 test at home was negative, but the next two in Latvia were positive. He says that both on his own initiative in the Friday test and in the Saturday test organized by the IBSF, the world’s most titled skeletonist has been Covid-19 negative.

The team meeting decided not to cancel the competition. Athletes from Canada, the USA, South Korea and China will not start in Latvia.

Dukurs revealed that the antiviral measures are significant – even contact with his coaches is very limited. Coaches are not allowed to move in the elevator and coaches are not allowed to go to the athletes in the changing rooms. In addition, the athletes themselves, when going to the start, must wear a mask, which must be worn immediately after the finish.

Unlike foreign athletes, brothers Tomas and Martin Dukuri are allowed to spend the night at home.

Skeleton competitions in the first two stages of the World Cup in Sigulda for both men and women are planned for November 20 and 27.
