Hoteliers all over the world are suffering from a lack of tourists, and this is also the case for one of the most prestigious chains in Canada: Germain Hotels.

With 18 establishments across the country, the season has been uneven according to the group’s co-president, Christiane Germain.

“The Charlevoix region has had a great summer, and continues to have a great summer. Cities that are perhaps less busy, such as Saskatoon, which is less frequented by Quebeckers, still had a little traffic, ”explained Ms. Germain in an interview with Quebec Matin.

Hotels in Montreal, visited by 11 million tourists annually, and in Toronto were “unfortunately very light,” she adds. “People want to travel, but they are afraid, and that’s quite normal.”

Christiane Germain is aware that as long as there is no vaccine or treatment, business will remain difficult.

“Now is the time to come together and cut expenses while maintaining quality of service. […] If the situation continues, we will have to receive help. ”

Hard hit, Germain Hotel had to go from 1,300 employees to only around 300 due to the COVID crisis.
