“There are positive signals as to the evolution of the pandemic but we remain in a firm position”, indicates Nicolas Hoarau, divisional commissioner of Thionville. This Thursday morning, a certificate control operation at the Yutz roundabout which is one of the major entry points to the Thionville area, mobilized two pairs of the local security group and an officer. In line with the desire to toughen up the tone expressed by the Minister, the agents carry out the usual checks at the “sustained” rate of ten checkpoints per day throughout the constituency. “The objective is to make these controls visible in order to dissuade and remind people of the rules of use, in no case to trap motorists,” continues Commissioner Hoarau.

Dams and dynamic controls
The national police, in this mission considered as “a central axis of public security” is supported by the municipal police and the highway CRS in order to rationalize the employment of staff in a context of health emergency. In addition to setting up checkpoints, the brigades also operate on the principle of “dynamic checks” to “intercept road users by night and day”.

Only one violation noted
It is not good to leave without a duly completed certificate for which the reason is justified. “Our agents know how to show discernment,” said the officer. Confinement if it is not as “hard” as the first time “must be respected”, insists the head of the Thionville police station. Any offender risks a fine of 135 euros which may be increased up to 750 euros if this is not paid within the time limit. “If there is repetition within fifteen days of the first offense, the fine will then be 500 euros”. Thirty minutes per checkpoint no more “to keep some mobility in order to move to another place”. In total, the check carried out at the southern entrance to Thionville focused on around twenty users for a single violation noted. “Once again, the object is not to make numbers but to get the message across”.
