COVID-19: Confirmed Cases Decrease 6% Over Last Week – Ministry of Health

– Twelve regions reduce their cases in the last seven days and thirteen in the last two weeks

The Ministry of Health reports that new nationally confirmed cases have shown a decline of 6% in the past seven days, while in 14 days there has been a decline of 4%. Meanwhile, 12 regions are decreasing their new confirmed cases in the past week and 13 do so in the past two weeks.

As for the case report of this Wednesday, October 12, 2,329 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded, with a positivity of 9.79% in the last 24 hours nationwide, with 18,175 exams, PCR and antigen tests. The daily positivity in the Metropolitan Region is 12.36%.

Of the 2,329 new cases, 58% are diagnosed by antigen testing, 25% are caused by Active Case Search (BAC), and 9% of those reported are asymptomatic. As for the Metropolitan Region, it has 55% antigen, 27% BAC and 7% of reported cases are asymptomatic.

According to the sample collection, the regions with the highest positivity in the last week are O’Higgins, Metropolitana, La Araucanía and Biobío.

Meanwhile, the Ñuble region has the current highest incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by the Biobío, Atacama and Maule regions.

According to today’s report, of the 2,329 new cases of COVID-19, 1,627 correspond to symptomatic people and 161 have no symptoms. In addition, 541 positive PCR tests were recorded which were not notified.

The total number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country reaches 4,659,201. Of that total, 11,720 patients are in the active phase. The cases recovered are 4,575,578.

As for the deaths, according to information provided by the DEIS, in the last 24 hours there have been 5 deaths due to causes related to COVID-19. The total number of deceased amounts to 61,350 in the country.

To date, 93 people are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit, of which 69 assisted by mechanical ventilation. With regard to the Integrated Health Network, a total of 333 critical beds are available for the patient who needs them, regardless of the region in which they are located.

As regards the Network of Laboratories and the diagnostic capacity, the results of 18,175 PCR tests and antigen tests were reported yesterday, reaching a total of 45,503,691 analyzed nationwide to date. The positivity of the last 24 hours at country level is 9.79% and in the Metropolitan Region it is 12.36%.

As for the Health Residences, we have 19 accommodation facilities, for a total of 1,151 beds. Effective occupancy nationwide is 20%, leaving a total of 747 beds available.
