ADDIS ABABA, June 20 (Xinhua) – China has come to the aid of Ethiopia since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, allowing the African country to continue to fight the scourge, said the Ethiopian Minister of Health, Dereje Duguma.
He made the remarks on Saturday at a ceremony to hand over the COVID-19 vaccine bundles from Sinopharm to the Ethiopian Red Cross.
Expressing his gratitude for China’s support, Duguma said the Asian giant has helped his country build its anti-pandemic capacity since the outbreak of the virus.
“Our gratitude and thanks go first of all to the Chinese government and people who have provided us with different kinds of support since the first months of the pandemic,” he said.
“When the virus was new to the world and Ethiopia, China’s support was really one of the most important in terms of personal protective equipment, test kits and different machines, training and sharing of experience, “said the Minister.
China’s comprehensive support is of great importance in Ethiopia’s efforts to improve public health as well as economic development, he said. End
