“I want to emphasize that today we have reached the highest daily sum in the evolution of the pandemic. 69,517 exams have been processed in a single day and Chile has surpassed 10 million polymerase chain reaction exams. This positions us as leaders in Latin America in the number of tests per million inhabitants ”, said the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, at the beginning of the national report on the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The authority highlighted the work of the laboratories and thanked the work of the medical technologists, biochemists, pharmaceutical chemists and all the laboratory personnel, from the people who do the cleaning, maintain the equipment and process the reagents. “I am deeply grateful to the laboratory teams, which have managed to break this Latin American record,” added the minister.
The Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, stressed that this increase is part of the strengthening of the Testing, Traceability and Isolation strategy that seeks to combat the pandemic and reiterated the importance of timely testing in case of presenting symptoms and preventive of not having symptoms.
He explained that the first pillar of the strategy is testing, so people with symptoms should consult and take the test in less than 24 hours from the beginning of the symptoms. In addition, the authority reported that the Active Case Search strategy has been strengthened, in which the Seremis and the APS go to the territories to take exams for free to anyone who requests it.
“I ask, mainly those people who during the last weeks have been in social gatherings where they could have been infected, to go to these mobile laboratories to be tested. It is essential to find those people who are positive and do not know it because they do not have symptoms, that way we can control the spread of the pandemic, isolating them and their close contacts, ”said Undersecretary Daza.
