Jakarta –
Vaccination against COVID-19 for children aged 6-12 can now be carried out in Indonesia. One of the conditions for children to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is that it has passed two weeks since the routine immunization or the last month of school child immunization (BIAS).
Why the two week break?
Pediatrician, Dr. Dr. Ariani Dewi Widodo, SpA(K) explained that this time off was intended to see the response of the vaccine that was injected into the child’s body.
“This is actually to give our bodies time to develop or increase immunity in response to the vaccines given,” explained Dr Ariani in the e-Life program, Friday (17/12/2021).
This time lag also serves to build immunity, so the vaccine can concentrate properly. If different types of vaccines are to be carried out simultaneously, scientific evidence is needed first that they are safe and that the vaccines are still effective.
“So if for example there are 20 types of vaccines or there are more, what we want to give is one by one so that our bodies have time to form immunity,” said Dr. Ariani.
