Covid-19 cases increase in Dallas. Population begins to lose its immunity.

Covid-19 is back, but no further outbreaks are expected until school returns, the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation reported Tuesday. But one concern is that the population is losing its immunity because 900,000 county residents have not gotten their booster dose.

According to PCCI, which measures the incidence of covid-19 cases for the county, there is an increase of 15.4% from one week to another.

In the week ending May 27, there were 2,270 cases.

According to PCCIcases have tripled and quadrupled since March, but it is still a low percentage compared to the peak of the omicron wave.

However, more chaos is being seen in emergency rooms. Hospitalizations rose to 71 intensive care unit beds, up from 68 the previous week, but there were only 8 ICU beds occupied the week before, said Steve Miff, CEO of PCCI.

PCCI also notes that vaccinations are down significantly in Dallas County. About 60% of residents are fully vaccinated, but only 21.7% of people have received booster doses.

“Unless there are new variants, the greatest disruption may occur in the fall due to greater community vulnerability due to many people not having their boosters and a reduction in immunity from vaccines and population immunity. ”, Miff warned through the statement.

There are 900,000 residents in the county who have not received their booster shots. That means that 66% have not received any dose of vaccine for more than nine months.
