According to the balance offered this Friday by the Ministry of Health (Minsal), in the last 24 hours there were 2,522 infections with SARS-CoV-2, a drop of 25 percent compared to the previous week.
At the national level, the positivity is 11.42 points and the regions with the most cases are O’Higgins, Antofagasta, Ñuble and Coquimbo.
The Minsal also reported 17 deaths from causes associated with Covid-19, for a cumulative 63,616 deaths and more than five million infections since the start of the pandemic here in 2020.
Starting Monday, the authorities expanded the application of the bivalent vaccine to people over 50 years of age and other population groups, such as educators, law enforcement, security, and transportation personnel.
Today the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, and the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, supervised the administration of the dose to workers of the Subus company, in the commune of Estación Central.
“It is very important to keep our vaccines up to date, so that Chile continues to move normally,” said Muñoz, who highlighted the work of bus, metro, train and taxi employees in the worst times of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the head of Health recalled that due to immunization there is less pressure and less risk of death, although – she warned – the pandemic has not ended.
“This bivalent vaccine allows us to face the successive waves that we have experienced from the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the Omicron variant without a greater impact on the severity of symptoms and deaths,” Aguilera stated.
The official urged to reinforce prevention measures, such as the use of masks in places with agglomeration of people, hand washing and ventilation.
