Cases of coronavirus in the country continue to increase after the arrival of omicron, a variant that is already dominant in the national territory.
According to the report of the Ministry of Health this Friday, January 7, in Colombia 26,190 new cases of covid-19 were reported in the last hours. This, after 122,242 tests were processed (50,247 of PCR and 71,995 of antigens).
In the country, to date, 30,199,691 tests have been processed. Thus, Colombia reaches 5,268,862 confirmed coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, in March 2020.

The Minsalud bulletin also reports 59 more deaths from the virus. With this update, the total death toll in Colombia rises to 130,250.

In the last 24 hours, in addition, 10,652 recovered patients were reported. Thus, there are already 5’016.760 people who to date have overcome covid-19 in the country.
In total, there are 103,059 cases that remain active in Colombia.
Antioquia is the place that presents the most new cases of covid-19 in Colombia, with 7,333. They are followed by Bogotá (5,961), Valle del Cauca (5,093) and Barranquilla (1,157).

Regarding the advance of National Vaccination Plan, the health authority reported that, with a cut-off at 11:59 pm on January 5, 65,563,271 doses of the vaccine against covid-19 have been applied in the country. Of that figure, 33,209,364 correspond to the first dose; 23,387,498 at second dose; 3,612,619, booster doses, and 5,353,790 are from the single-dose vaccine.
In Colombia, 28,741,288 people already have the complete vaccination scheme.
