Significant restrictive measures are applied to deal with the surge in contamination cases

Moroccans face new restrictive measures in an attempt to curb the spread of Covid-19. Following the appearance of several outbreaks of contamination in neighborhoods in Casablanca, Marrakech and Beni Mellal,
the walis and governors, in close consultation with the health authorities, have decreed significant restrictions. In Casablanca, which remains by far the city most affected by the coronavirus, several neighborhoods, beaches, hammams and beauty salons have been closed. Thus, all the beaches have been closed since Friday, August 21, at midnight. This closure also concerns the beaches of Dar Bouazza, Paloma and Ain Harrouda. Saturday evening, the local authorities of the province of Berrechid announced the closure, as of Sunday, August 23, 2020 at midnight, of all the beaches on the coast of the municipalities of Sidi Rahal Chatai and Soualem Trifia.

In addition, restrictive measures were recently adopted concerning the closure of the entrances and parts of 2 districts of the prefecture of the Sidi Bernoussi districts, of a district and of a douar of the prefecture of the Ain Sbaa-Hay Mohammadi districts, of 2 streets of the prefecture of El Fida-Mers Sultan districts, of 7 districts, streets and avenues under the prefecture of Casa-Anfa districts, 3 streets of the prefecture of Ben M’sik districts and two districts of the prefecture of the Moulay Rachid districts. Other measures were applied, namely the closure at 8 p.m. of cafes and restaurants, convenience stores and large shopping centers and at 4 p.m. of local markets. In the ocher city, severe restriction measures have been put in place to curb the alarming increase in Covid-19 cases. Marrakech has been subjected to an intensification of movement control at the entrances and exits of the city, with the closing of accesses to several neighborhoods affected by infectious outbreaks.

Thus, the accesses leading to 12 neighborhoods were closed. It was therefore decided to close cafes, restaurants and shops at 10 p.m. while ensuring compliance with the reception capacity set at 50%, to control compliance with the capacity of reception facilities. public transport set at 50%, to close pilot markets and souks at 5 p.m. and to close areas, green spaces and public parks with multiple accesses and which are very busy in the evening. Remember that since the beginning of the month, Morocco has been facing an outbreak of contaminations, with more than a thousand new cases per day. The Kingdom recorded another sad record on Saturday with 1,565 new cases and 41 deaths.

A report which brings to 50,812 the number of contaminations since the first case reported on March 2. The cumulative incidence rate is thus 140 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the number of active cases amounts to 14,914, i.e. a rate of 41.1 / 100,000 inhabitants.
