The habit of squinting eyes can actually transmit the Corona virus COVID-19. The ophthalmologist explains the mechanism.
“Why are we told not to touch our eyes or face? That’s because if the COVID virus is in our hands and then we touch the eyes, it will attack the conjunctiva so conjunctivitis can occur,” explained Dr Timmy Budi Yudhantara, SpM to detikcom, Friday (29/7). /2021).
According to Dr. Timmy, the eyes and the respiratory system are connected through a channel. Anything that enters through the eyes, can also enter the respiratory tract and cause pneumonia. Including COVID-19 can also enter through the eye.
However, it is recognized that transmission through the eye is relatively rare. What is more often found is someone experiencing complaints in the eyes after being infected with COVID-19.
“If you get COVID, the eyes will definitely turn red. Then there is pain, swelling occurs,” explained Dr. Timmy about the symptoms of COVID-19 in the eyes.
“If the vision is not disturbed, but usually due to inflammation in the conjunctiva it will swell and the lids will be uncomfortable,” he continued.
Here’s the difference between normal eye pain vs symptoms: COVID-19:
