Covid-19 brings New York to rest

New York City is wrapped in cotton these days. Ever since Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recommended that New York citizens stay indoors, the city has looked deserted at times. Even in the otherwise lively Times Square, there is hardly anything going on.

“The city that never sleeps” can suddenly. If you wake up in the morning these days, you can hear the birds chirping in the backyard and the city seems to be wrapped in cotton wool. Planes can only be heard sporadically in the sky. Police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles no longer howl so forcefully, and even the warning signals from trains, the tone of which is reminiscent of robbery situations in western films, have become less. Only now, when it is no longer there, is it really noticeable how strong the background noise of the otherwise busy metropolis normally is.
