Harianjogja.com, JAKARTA – The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) in the UK said that the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine or booster should only be given to people with very weak immune systems.
Is the third dose of vaccine needed by all people?
Vaccinologist at Oxford Dame University Sarah Gilbert replied that the vaccine was given to a country that had not yet given its first dose to the entire population. For example, countries in Africa still vaccinate only 2 percent of their population.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) states that a third dose should be offered to people with very weak immune systems.
UK Health Minister Sajid Javid said he was waiting for the final advice from JCVI regarding the booster program to start later this month.
Provisional advice issued by the JCVI in July suggested more than 30 million people should receive a booster dose, including all adults over 50 years of age.

The UK drug regulator (MHRA) has approved the use of Pfizer and AstraZeneca as a booster for Covid-19 vaccines.
Prof Sir Andrew Pollard, director of the Oxford Vaccine Group, approved the administration of a booster vaccine to prevent a wave of coronavirus cases. On the other hand, he said it had a moral obligation to help other countries.
Sir Andrew also said the UK still had a high level of protection from the virus, even though the community’s immune response levels fell after getting the vaccine.
