Covid-19 / Béni Mellal Airport: Arrival of 160 Moroccans repatriated from Spain

A total of 160 people, including 20 pregnant women and 10 newborns, arrived on Saturday June 27 at Béni Mellal airport on a Royal Air Maroc (RAM) plane from the city of Seville (Spain) in the context of the repatriation of Moroccan nationals stranded abroad due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This group of Moroccans has thus returned to the Motherland from Spain on a humanitarian flight which landed at 1:00 p.m. at Beni Mellal airport.

This repatriation, which took place in strict compliance with preventive measures and the health protocol in force in the Kingdom to guarantee a safe and reassuring welcome for the various passengers, under the supervision of ONDA and the local authorities of the province by Béni Mellal, benefited pregnant women and newborns, the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases, and children.

Wearing protective masks and observing the safety distance, the returnees were welcomed, on arrival, by the local authorities of the Wilaya of the Béni Mellal region, before being subjected to a massive screening test and temperature measurement. They also recovered their luggage in a smooth and orderly manner, while complying with social distancing measures.

The 160 arrivals on board a RAM Boeing 737-800 were then returned to buses bound for several hotel establishments in Béni Mellal, for a confinement period of nine days as part of a medical monitoring protocol. necessary to ensure that these people are not carriers of Covid-19.

In a statement to MAP, the Covid-19 referent at Béni Mellal airport, Mehdi Ailoul, said that 160 Moroccan nationals stranded due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic abroad have returned to the Kingdom, noting that ONDA in partnership with all stakeholders and in particular the local authorities of the province of Béni Mellal have taken all measures for the success of this operation and the guarantee of its progress in the best conditions.

As such, he recalled the measures initiated by ONDA, citing the redevelopment of the various locations of the airport to ensure compliance with social distancing measures and the implementation of a health protocol, such as disinfection baggage and strengthening of the hand sterilization device with hydroalcoholic gel.

In similar declarations, the beneficiaries of this repatriation expressed their gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for this generous initiative of the Sovereign, welcoming the important deployment of the local authorities of Béni Mellal who ensured grain to the success of this surgery.

The flight aboard the RAM Boeing 737-800 took place in the best conditions, they said, highly welcoming the colossal efforts made by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Spain.

The returnees also highlighted the efforts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the unfailing support it gave them, expressing their immense joy at being able to finally reach the mother country after a difficult period abroad .

As a reminder, the government has assumed, in accordance with the High Orientations of HM King Mohammed VI, all the costs related to the implementation of the repatriation program of Moroccans stranded abroad, in addition to the costs related to accommodation and screening tests for the new coronavirus in strict compliance with the health protocol in force during the days of confinement of these beneficiaries in the Kingdom.
