Covid-19 bed occupancy remains high in four hospitals

At present, four hospitals continue to have high bed occupancy rates for Covid-19 patients, according to data from the Disaster Medical Center of the Emergency Medical Service submitted to the government meeting.

The highest load is in Ludza Medical Center, where 97% of such beds are occupied. The workload in Balvi Hospital is slightly lower – 96%. Earlier, the hospital’s management explained that this was due to the rapid spread of the British variant of Covid-19 in the region. However, compared to last week, the workload in Balvi has slightly decreased.

Rezekne and Dobele and surrounding hospitals occupy three quarters of the beds for Covid-19 patients.

The lowest workload is in Riga 1st Hospital and Aizkraukle Hospital, where it reaches 4% and 5%, respectively.

Currently, the average bed occupancy rate in all hospitals treating adult Covid-19 patients is 54%. A week ago, it was 63%. At the beginning of the week, 1212 beds were allocated to Covid-19 patients in Latvian hospitals.

In Tukums, Kuldīga and Līvāni hospitals, the provision of certain services is currently disrupted.

According to data available on Monday, a total of 338 Covid-19-related staff were absent from emergency hospitals. 247 of them have contracted Covid-19, while the rest are contacts of infected people or are in self-isolation.
