The macabre count continues. 17 additional deaths to be deplored since yesterday. The virus continues to wreak havoc, most of the time infecting unvaccinated people. A glimmer of hope, however: the awareness for some to be vaccinated as soon as possible. As in Taputapuatea.
Another 17 dead in 24 hours. Since the start of the epidemic, 480 people have died after being infected with the covid virus.
As for hospitalizations, the trend is downward: 305 people are in a hospital today against 330 yesterday. Patients in intensive care are down slightly, 57 against 58 yesterday.
But it is on the side of vaccination that the figures give hope. Since yesterday, 1,283 additional people have now been fully vaccinated (113,873, or 40% of the population). And 142,109 (+ 885) people received their first injection.
Explain vaccination
In the Leeward Islands, particularly in the town of Taputapuatea (Raiatea), the vaccination campaign has really taken a leap forward. Thomas Moutame, the mayor, confirmed that since this morning, more than “300 people have been vaccinated”. The reason: since last week, 10 groups with health guides have been going door to door to explain to the population why vaccination is for the moment the only bulwark against the virus.
“Faced with the recalcitrant, it is necessary to explain to them without forcing, to relate the testimonies of families having lost relatives”, adds the tavana. But above all, the latter urges the inhabitants of his town and of Raiatea in general to limit their movements in order to avoid contacts which are still too frequent.
