Mr. Castillo, what measures are being taken by the state of Hidalgo to combat vaccine misinformation and encourage a higher vaccination rate among hesitant populations?
World Today News, it’s a pleasure to welcome two distinguished guests on our show today. Our first guest is Dr. Ana Morales, a leading virologist and immunologist, and our second guest is Mr. Jesus Castillo, the Health Secretary of the state of Hidalgo. Thank you both for being here with us.
Dr. Morales, let’s start with you. As a virologist, how important do you think it is for people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza during this time? And what are the potential consequences of not vaccinating against these viruses?
Dr. Morales: Thank you for having me. In my opinion, it’s extremely important for people to get vaccinated against both COVID-19 and influenza. These vaccines not only protect the individual but also help reduce the overall spread of these diseases in the community. With COVID-19, we know that the vaccines can help prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death. Similarly, influenza vaccines can significantly reduce the risk of developing serious complications and even death from the flu. If people don’t get vaccinated, they are at a higher risk of getting sick, potentially requiring medical attention, and even passing on the virus to others. This can lead to an increase in hospitalizations and strain healthcare systems that are already under pressure.
Mr. Castillo, could you please provide us with an update on the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Hidalgo? How is the uptake of the vaccine in your state, and what are some of the challenges you’ve faced in your efforts to vaccinate the population?
Mr. Castillo: Of course. As of now, our state has applied 234 thousand doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and we continue to work on increasing the number of vaccinations, especially among our priority groups. We have faced some challenges, such as vaccine hesitancy and misinformation, but we are working closely with healthcare providers and the public to address these concerns. Our goal is to make sure everyone who wants to get vaccinated has access to the vaccine and is well-informed about its benefits.
Dr. Morales, there has been some news about adjusting
