Covid-19 affected class took place in one room and had no contact with other students – in Latvia

For the class affected by Covid-19, the studies at Riga East Secondary School took place in one room and there was no intersection of flows, said Ilze Sondore-Drukaļska, Deputy Director of Riga East Secondary School.

The deputy principal pointed out that the school had various security measures in place, such as the fact that classes take place in the same classroom so that student flows do not cross, and that teachers go to students instead of vice versa.

Sondore-Drukaļska mentioned that as soon as a message was received from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) about the infection of one student with Covid-19, his entire class and the four teachers who worked with the class that day went to home quarantine.

She said that teachers now send assignments to this class, as they did during the emergency. In turn, after the observed quarantine, students will be allowed to return to the full-time study process with medical certificates.

It has already been reported that with the start of the new school year, the first case of infection with Covid-19 has been detected in a student of an educational institution, TV3 reported on Monday. SPKC epidemiologists have provided recommendations to the school for further action, the epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Latvian Television reported that the first case of Covid-19 in an educational institution this school year was detected in Riga East Secondary School, the infection did not come from the educational institution, but experts are not yet clear where the child and his mother got it.

Currently, home quarantine has been established for the student’s closest contacts – 14 classmates and four teachers. Due to the case, the school has applied for Covid-19 tests for teachers and staff.
