COVID-19: A Grégoire restaurant employee and son tested positive

The Grégoire et fils restaurant in Mercier closed its doors temporarily this Saturday, July 4, because one of the employees tested positive for COVID-19.

The Grégoire family learned in the afternoon on Saturday July 4 that one of its employees had been diagnosed with COVID-19. “As soon as we knew, we tried to see what the procedures were in a case like that,” explain two of the co-owners, Emmanuel and Jean-François Grégoire, in an interview with Châteauguay Sun.

Even before speaking to Public Health, the Grégoires made the decision to close their restaurant as a preventive measure. “We don’t have to close, but we don’t want to take a chance,” they say.

The infected employee worked at the Merci restaurant on Wednesday July 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday July 2 between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Restaurant owners should check with which colleagues the positive test employee has been in contact. If necessary, other employees will be quarantined.

A specialized company will clean up the restaurant, which is located on Boulevard Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Mercier.

The Gregoire brothers hope to be able to reopen in the coming days, but they specify that they will not rush the reopening. “We want to reopen when we are certain that it will be correct for both customers and our employees. We want to have a clear conscience, ”they stress.

Second restaurant infected in Mercier

It is the second Mercier restaurant to temporarily close in two days due to an employee with COVID-19. On Friday July 3, the McDonald’s restaurant located on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard closed for a few hours following a positive diagnosis by an employee at COVID-19. It reopened after a specialized firm cleaned and disinfected the establishment.

For their part, Emmanuel and Jean-François Grégoire did not expect to manage such a situation this Saturday. “You see it happens to others, but when it’s home, it strikes. We don’t want that to anyone, ”they comment.

They wish to make the population aware of the importance of respecting health instructions, especially among young people. “We are trying to make our employees aware that if you catch it it is a danger not only for your work, but also for anyone in the company,” they say.

People who have frequented the restaurant and who are experiencing symptoms can consult the site of the Public health for more information.
