COVID-19: 1,819 new cases are reported – Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health reports that new confirmed cases at the national level decreased by 8.8% in the last week, while in the last 14 days they decreased by 31.9%. In addition, fourteen regions reduced their cases in the last seven days and all in the last fourteen days.

The case report for this Wednesday, February 8, records 1,819 new cases of COVID-19, with a positivity rate of 9.14% in the last 24 hours nationwide, with 12,334 exams, PCR, and antigen tests. The daily positivity in the Metropolitan Region is 8.27%.

Of the 1,819 new cases, 70% are diagnosed by antigen test, 26% originate from active case finding (BAC) and 10% of those notified are asymptomatic. As for the Metropolitan Region, it presents 64% by antigen, 29% by BAC and 7% of the reported cases are asymptomatic.

According to sampling, the regions with the highest positivity in the last week are Aysén, O’Higgins, Biobío and Ñuble.

Meanwhile, the Atacama region has the highest current incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Ñuble, Los Ríos and Biobío.

According to today’s report, of the 1,819 new cases of COVID-19, 1,246 correspond to symptomatic people and 132 do not present symptoms. In addition, 441 Positive PCR tests were registered that were not notified.

The total number of people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country reaches 5,132,118. Of this total, 3,788 patients are in the active stage, considering a 5-day isolation from the onset of symptoms or from taking the test, according to the Opening phase criteria. The recovered cases are 5,044,980.

As for deaths, according to the information provided by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours there were 5 deaths due to causes associated with COVID-19. The total number of deaths amounts to 63,919 in the country.

As of yesterday, 98 people were hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, of which 70 remained with mechanical ventilation support. Regarding the Integrated Health Network, there are a total of 296 critical beds available for the patient who requires it, regardless of the region where they are located.

Regarding the Laboratory Network and diagnostic capacity, yesterday the results of 12,334 PCR tests and antigen tests were reported, reaching a total of 48,216,030 analyzed nationwide to date. The positivity for the last 24 hours at the country level is 9.14% and in the Metropolitan Region it is 8.27%.
