While thousands of people marched in the afternoon against the health pass, the deterioration of the indicators of the epidemic continued on Saturday. The number of new cases detected, which has risen sharply for two weeks, has notably increased further.
Thus, 10,949 new cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours, against 4,696 a week ago. On average, over the past week, there are 6,688 positive tests per day, against 3,533 the previous week. The incidence rate, that is to say the number of positive people per 100,000 inhabitants, also continues to increase, just above the alert level of 50.5. Weekly averages which may however be underestimated due to the July 14 public holiday where fewer tests were carried out.
Hospitals empty much less
In hospitals, this confirmed resumption of the increase in cases is starting to be seen. The decline seems to give way to a slight increase, on average over the week, in the various departments. Thus, this Saturday evening, according to Public Health France, there were 6,922 patients hospitalized due to the coronavirus, against 7,183 a week ago. On the other hand, with 114 people on the side of the new hospitalizations reported this Saturday, the decrease seems to stop on a plateau (101 a week ago).
In the intensive care departments which welcome the most seriously affected patients, 890 people are treated, against 947 last Saturday. Here too, the respite enjoyed by caregivers seems to end with 21 entries this Saturday across the country, against nine a week ago and 29 on average. In hospitals, at least 16 people still lost their lives as a result of Covid-19 this Saturday (19 last week).
So to try to fight against this new wave that is coming, boosted by the Delta variant which has become the majority in almost all of the departments, the government intends to rely on vaccination. In recent days, he had first broken records for making appointments, before this materialized in injections for several days in a row with 879,597 declared in 24 hours on Friday. According to the latest figures shared by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health, 704,703 injections were declared this Saturday. More than 37.4 million people have received an injection and more than 30 million have a full vaccination schedule, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.
