In his daily report on the epidemic of Covid-19, Public Health France reports 15,911 new cases this Thursday, September 2, 2021, a figure that is again down sharply compared to last week (19,683 on Thursday, August 26).
The average of new daily cases smoothed over 7 days continues to drop sharply, and stands at 15,174 cases per day on Thursday.
The national incidence rate therefore continues to decline. It was 167 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on August 30 (data consolidated on D + 3). A still relatively high rate, while the students go back to school.
Here is the incidence rate by department:
If the downward trend is almost general, the incidence rates are still very high in Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyana and in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
Slow decline in the hospital
The slow decline continues in hospitals. The number of patients hospitalized for a severe form of Covid-19 is down again this Thursday, with 10,934 people treated in French hospitals (against 11,119 on Wednesday).
In critical care services, the trend is also down, with 2,275 patients treated (compared to 2,294).
Hospital pressure remains strong in three departments: Bouches-du-Rhône (967 people hospitalized), Martinique (727) and Guadeloupe (586).
The situation is also critical in French Polynesia, where a severe resurgence of the epidemic has led the authorities to extend the confinement in force since August 23.
Deaths in nursing homes updated
The daily number of deaths remains high: 104 additional deaths have been recorded in hospitals in the past 24 hours. A total of 87,893 people died from Covid-19 in hospitals.
Public Health France updated this Thursday evening the number of deaths in nursing homes and similar establishments, which amounted to 26,686 deaths. This figure had not been updated since mid-July. 213 Covid-related deaths were recorded between August 1 and August 31.
In recent days, an incorrect figure has circulated in error and twice counted the deaths of people living in nursing homes who died in hospital. This represented an excess of nearly 11,000 dead.
