COVAX, an international project for the equitable dissemination of the novel coronavirus infection vaccine, announced on the 3rd that it plans to supply 1992,000 doses of the novel corona vaccine to North Korea.
COVAX, created by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Infectious Disease Prevention and Innovation Association (CEPI), and the World Vaccine Immunity Association (GAVI), made such a statement in the report “Covax Facility: Provisional Distribution Prospects” released today.
The report explained that North Korea will be supplied with a vaccine jointly developed by the British Oxford University and multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca (AZ) produced by the Indian Serum Research Institute (SII). He added that the vaccine will be provided to North Korea during the first half of this year.
Considering that the AstraZeneca vaccine needs to be given twice, the amount provided to North Korea is 996,000 people.
The report explained that North Korea will be supplied with vaccines through the’Advance Market Commitment’ (AMC), aka’CoVax Pre-purchase Commitment,’ where each country provides financial support to support developing countries.
AMC is a mechanism that provides vaccines to developing countries with funds donated by developed countries, and North Korea is classified as a low-income country that receives vaccines for free or at low cost.
The report said it plans to provide the corona vaccine to 139 countries besides North Korea.
In addition, a separate vaccine has been allocated for non-UN member states.
The total supply is 337 million doses, including 336 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and 1.2 million doses of Piza vaccine approved for emergency use by WHO.
The report said the distribution plan is to provide governments with the information they need for their national vaccine programs, and that it may change depending on the situation of each country, such as the health preparation system to receive the vaccine.
He added that the final report on vaccine distribution will be republished in a timely manner.
Meanwhile, North Korea has revealed that there are no corona confirmed cases yet.
According to a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) at the end of last year, North Korea reported that a total of 13,257 people were tested for corona diagnosis, and no one tested positive for a double.
