Médoc Atlantique is a destination with a thousand faces, benefiting from an exceptional natural richness, as well as spaces of remarkable immensity.
The Médoc has been part of the family of Regional Natural Parks of France (PNR) since 2019. The territory is thus recognized nationally for its remarkable natural and cultural heritage. Within this territory of the South-West, there are 2 nature reserves, 5 protected areas, the largest freshwater lake in France, 110 km of beaches and the largest estuary in Europe.
Many preserved natural jewels which testify to an intact nature and stronger than ever. These spaces of unique beauty can be visited all year round and invite you to reconnect more with nature and with yourself.
COUSSEAU POND
Located between Carcans and Lacanau, the Etang de Cousseau Nature Reserve is a true haven of peace, extending over 900 ha. In the heart of this protected natural area, nature lovers will be able to recharge their batteries and discover a rich and preserved nature: pedunculate oaks, protected pneumonanthe gentian, reed bed, egrets and crested lapwings… During their walk, they will also be able to meet the hosts of these antlers such as roe deer, stags or badgers. From November to February, the pond of Cousseau welcomes every evening the common cranes which spend the night in the marshes.
