Pablo Escobar, the head of the Medellín cartel, was the most powerful drug lord in the world in the 1980s. When the Colombian government wanted to extradite him to the United States, the wealthy criminal started a bloody war to prevent it. He died in 1993 after a long manhunt.
Since then, all kinds of wild stories have been circulating about the drug lord’s fortune. He had hidden weapons, cash and other valuables at various hiding places. Criminals, millionaires and family members searched for years for Escobar’s hidden treasures.
Spiritual experience
His cousin, Nicolás, was one of them. He claims several caletas, secret spaces. He would have made the latest find in the apartment in Medellín where he lived for about five years. Nicolás says to have found space after a spiritual experience. “I looked out the window,” he tells Red Más Noticias, “and saw in the reflection of the windows the appearance of a man in my house. He disappeared where the loot turned out to be hidden”.
Nicolás Escobar was kidnapped by enemies of the drug lord shortly before his uncle’s death. “They tortured me for hours because they thought I knew where Pablo was hiding,” he told reporters.
Dug up bones
Since then, Nicolás’ life revolves around his legendary uncle. He has a theme channel on it YouTube, runs a small museum and tries to convince everyone that Pablo Escobar was not shot by the police, but took his own life.
Relatives of the drug lord had the drug lord’s remains exhumed in 2006 to take DNA material. Nicolás and his father Roberto, a brother of Pablo, were there and released images of the entire operation, much to the chagrin of Pablo Escobar’s son. On that occasion Nicolás is said to have taken some small bones from Pablo Escobar. He is said to have buried one under a tree on the hacienda Napoles, the country retreat of Pablo Escobar. Nicolás says that was a wish of his uncle.
There is something to be said about Nicolás’ credibility. He is known to the police as a fraudster and scammer. Several years ago he was convicted of credit card cloning. Apart from the journalists of Red Más Noticias and Nicolás Escobar himself, there are no other sources so far that can confirm the story of the cousin.
