Madrid –
Thibaut Courtois question the tactics used Carlo Ancelotti moment Real Madrid beat up Barcelona 0-4. The Belgian goalkeeper said that the formula he had used had been tried and failed, but was being used again.
Courtois actually managed to make six saves in the El Clasico duel at the Santiago Bernabeu, Monday (21/3/2022) early morning WIB. But all that did not mean much, because he had to pick the ball from the net four times.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (29′, 51′), Ronald Araujo (38′) and Ferran Torres (47′) managed to find the net. After the game, he criticized his own team’s game.
Madrid did appear less biting in this match following the absence of Karim Benzema due to injury, but for Courtois that is no excuse. Not only that, he was also surprised by Ancelotti’s decision to play Luka Modric as a false nine.
According to him, this tactic has been tried in the Copa del Rey. He was referring to the quarter-final match against Athletic Bilbao, where Ancelotti fielded Marco Asensio as a centre-forward, despite his original position as a winger.
In the first match of his career as a number 9, Asensio failed to score and Madrid were eliminated by losing 0-1. Throughout the match, only two shots on goal were produced by El Real at that time despite controlling 58 percent of the ball.
“Today we gave a bad image for this club. There are players who are absent, but they (Barcelona) only played last Thursday (in the Europa League). They found a lot of space. We weren’t close and couldn’t prevent goals from happening. Courtois told Movistar.
“We have to have an internal discussion about tactics. It didn’t go well at the start or in the second half, we have to talk about it internally, not here (publicly).”
“We played with a false 9 in the Copa (del Rey) and struggled to create shots, the situation is the same as it is now. We started well, Fede Valverde had a chance that was saved by Marc ter Stegen, but after that our form dropped.”
“We didn’t find players who were free to move and that made the situation difficult. Then in the second half, we couldn’t start the game like that (conceding an early goal). This symbol (Madrid logo) demands that we fight and we didn’t do that in half two. We could have lost more,” Courtois said.
