If landowner Fornebu Sentrum wins with its claims in court, the Fornebubanen could be between NOK 1 and 1.5 billion more expensive, according to NRK.
Since the start of construction in December 2020, the cost frame on the Fornebubanen has increased several times, most recently to 26.4 billion. After the last billion-dollar crack just before the summer of last year, the politicians in Oslo and Viken considered scrapping the entire project.
But after months of political tug-of-war, it was decided to continue construction. The Forne bus line is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
On Monday, the trial started in Ringerike, Asker and Bærum district court between Viken county council and one of the landowners. It can cause another cost blow.
Before construction began, the landowners at Fornebu agreed to give up land, permanently or temporarily, so as not to delay the track and later meet in court to decide the compensation. Initially, the county council was supposed to meet nine landowners, but in the days before, eight of them withdrew, writes NRK.
The company that believes it has suffered the biggest loss, Fornebu Sentrum, is still involved and is asking for up to NOK 1.5 billion. The company, which is owned by Selvaag Bolig, bought the area around what will be the terminus of the Fornebubanen, for the development of housing and commercial buildings. As the entire area is still a large construction pit, this has not been possible.
However, Viken has rejected the demand for compensation and points out that the landowners are making good money at Fornebu. The trial continues until March 3.
