The case has dragged on since 2015. In the first instance, the court ruled that the lawyer of the next of kin Liesbeth Zegveld had provided too little evidence to substantiate the claim for excessive use of force. She was unsuccessful on all counts in 2018. During an earlier interlocutory judgment, the court had already put a stop to the plaintiff’s assumption that the hijackers had been deliberately executed. Something that the State has always contradicted.
The case does not go completely on appeal. For example, the Marines who were previously extensively heard will not have to take a seat on the witness stand again. Counsel Zegveld thinks she can still win the case by hearing additional witnesses. It is unclear who these witnesses are. The case starts this morning at half past nine and is through this livestream to follow.
