Court of appeal decides: Delphine Boël is now officially princess of Belgium, and that is also news abroad

A judgment was not expected until the end of October, but it eventually came earlier. The court of appeal in Brussels has decided that Delphine Boël will henceforth be known as the “princess of Belgium”. Her two children, Joséphine and Oscar, also receive that title. She is therefore also entitled to the inheritance, at least one eighth of it. And what about grants? Is Boël entitled to that? No, according to the Constitution. Only the heir to the throne and a king or queen who abdicates will from now on be endowed. And only for Prince Laurent and Princess Astrid a transitional provision has been made, so they will still receive an allocation. Their specific names are in the Constitution, so it seems a certainty that Princess Delphine will not be listed there.
