Enoch Burke, a teacher at Wilson’s Hospital School in Ireland, objected to a request made by the principal to address a transitioning student by their preferred name and pronoun last June, but did not object to a similar request concerning a different student months earlier, the High Court has heard. Mr Burke’s behaviour at a school religious service and a subsequent dinner resulted in disciplinary action being initiated. The case against Mr Burke centres on whether he was wrongly suspended from his teaching position last August pending a disciplinary process. He has denied any misconduct, disputed the school’s account of events in many respects and claims his constitutional rights have been breached. The case continues.
