The US Supreme Court will not reopen the abuse case against comedian Bill Cosby (84). The prosecutors’ request to reconsider the case was thus rejected; Cosby remains at large. It is not clear why the court made this decision.
In 2018, Cosby was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for drugging and abusing Andrea Constand. The comedian appealed the sentence. He said the trial had been unfair. Last year, the judge ruled in his favor and Cosby was released after almost three years in prison. He has always maintained that the contact with Constand was with her consent.
The court ruled in June last year that errors had been made in the process. For example, during the trial about the indictment of Constand, five other witnesses were admitted and that was not allowed, the court said at the time. Cosby also had an agreement with a prosecutor that he would not be prosecuted.
MeToo
Dozens of women have accused Cosby of sexual abuse, but most of the cases were already time-barred. Constand’s case was still pending.
The Cosby trial was the first high-profile MeToo lawsuit to lead to a conviction.
