Court confirms conviction of film boss Harvey Weinstein: sentence remains 23 years | NOW

An appeals court in New York on Thursday upheld Harvey Weinstein’s conviction for several sex crimes. Five judges ruled that no errors were made in the conviction in 2020. The seventy-year-old former film producer must therefore continue to serve his 23-year sentence, American media report.

Weinstein’s defense had appealed the conviction. The lawyers believed that the judge had acted unlawfully. Among other things, they disagreed with citing past incidents for which Weinstein was never convicted. The panel of judges disagreed.

The former film producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2020. Weinstein was found guilty of sexually assaulting a production assistant in 2006 and raping a woman in 2013 who was pursuing a career as an actress.

Weinstein is currently at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, awaiting trial for other sexual offenses.
