The trip takes place just a couple of days after the Court’s Director of Administration denounced the media and was highly critical of the government’s budget cuts against the state agency.

Unfortunate timing

The day after this council meeting, on 13 October, the Court of Agder goes to Verona in Italy. Court Chief Robert Versland has to admit that the timing could have been better.

– The timing of the trip also turned out to be unfortunate, considering that the courts have just received it has long served some of the most challenging budget figures for the operational year 2023. The board of directors Next Wednesday, the court administration will evaluate measures to deal with what is happening be the budget for 2023. If we had known that the financial situation for the courts would be become so demanding in 2023, we would not have ordered this scheme.

However, Versland points out that the journey is both professionally and socially motivated.

– The main academic program includes visits to the court of Verona, with lectures, among other things the field of specialization of the court, the distribution of judges and case managers, and in general the Italian language the legal system. The international perspective is something that is becoming more and more relevant and interesting obs.

– As mentioned, social activities are also a central and important element, with common dinners and lunches, lunch in the vineyard, visit to the vineyard and trip to Lake Garda with lunch on the day of departure. Common interaction and routines will be the theme throughout the stay.

Funds saved

They also saved the financial resources of the previous year.

– Agder District Court has received NOK 479,000 in funds for merger-related activities, which we have received moved to 2022 due to the pandemic. Furthermore, in 2021 we had lower consumption which made it possible to enter additional funds per activity.

Overseas became the destination when management found employees more likely to devote their free time to it. It was also not significantly more expensive than a similar stay in Norway.
