Course in Salerno, San Matteo mission

The first batch of restyling works of Vittorio Emanuele Streetthe one concerning the stretch that goes from Via Santi Martiri Salernitan a via Diazwill be completed in time for the celebrations of Saint Matthew. This is the objective declared by the councilor for Mobility of the Municipality of Salerno, Rocco Galdiwhich, considering the state of the art, guarantees that that part of the construction site will be removed by the patronal feast of September 21st. The construction site for the works that go from via Diaz up to Principalities Street where the intervention is focusing on the not at all simple arrangement of the utilities, the sewage system but also the entire tangled route of the electricity cables among which they are trying to bring order.

The ratings

And it is precisely the presence of the construction site still under construction that is starting a series of assessments also with respect to the passage of the procession. The construction site area is not included in the route of the traditional passage of the statues of the saints and the paranze but, in any case, it represents an element to be considered from a safety perspective: the procession, after having arrived in Portanova squarecontinues along the course and then takes the descent towards the sea right on the road now “limit” of the works. And, given the expected large influx of people for one of the most heartfelt events for the people of Salerno and beyond (the imminent patronal feast, among other things, falls on a Saturday this year), escape routes and a series of precautions must be planned. In the next few days, therefore, it will be understood whether corrections will have to be made in the carrying out of the procession or everything can take place as tradition dictates, with possible and eventual minimal changes to the route.

The unknown

But there is also the unknown of Cavour Square which is also repeated this year. The widening of the Promenade where the moment of blessing the sea is traditionally held with the statues overlooking the cliff, in fact, is still off limits due to the former construction site of the underground car park which will no longer be built but which cannot be removed because there is an ongoing legal dispute between the company that had obtained the area in project financing and the Municipality.
