Organized by the Municipality of Chillán Viejo together with the Hermanos O’Higgins National Folklore and Cultural Corporation, this Thursday, November 2, the sixth version of the Hermanos O’Higgins National Cueca Championship begins, which seeks to enhance national dance, promoting family ties , specifically the bond between siblings.
In the 48-bar cueca huasa event, 12 couples from 11 regions of the country will participate along with the couple from the historic commune, brothers from all over Chile who for three nights will dance to the rhythm of the cuecas of the folklore groups ‘Maihuén de Los Ángeles’, ‘Las Pitucas’ from the commune of Temuco, ‘Los de la Orilla’ from Graneros, and the local group ‘Con Panderos y Guitarras’.
Mayor Jorge del Pozo Pastene invited the community to participate in the national event. “We want to invite the entire cueca family from the Ñuble region and other regions of the country, but also those who are concerned about this great dance that we have in this country, which we are lucky enough to have as our national dance. , which can also come, is open to the public for free. It will be specifically in the Las Rosas patio, where we want the stage to be an important part of what we are going to experience these days. We feel happy, we feel the desire to fully fulfill a great challenge and it has to do with this national championship,” he stressed.
The competition will take place for three nights in the Patio Las Rosas sector of the Bernardo O’Higgins Monumental Park, starting at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 2 and Friday, November 3, and from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4.
The president of the Hermanos O’Higgins Folkloric and Cultural Corporation, Marcelo Rodríguez Cid, commented “with all pride I can say that we resume here, this 2023, the sixth version, of course with the support of the illustrious municipality, the mayor and of the council, whom I take this opportunity to thank for their support. 12 regions of the 16 of our country confirmed participation, those that come with their delegations and their bars, therefore a great cuequera family is going to come together here (…) It is very important for us to promote our national dance, show the commune of Chillán Viejo”.
The contest aimed at siblings over 17 years of age and whose name pays tribute to the brothers Rosita and Bernardo O’Higgins, will measure the regional champion couples in factors such as personal presentation, presence, technique and interpretation with the meaning of the championship, that is in the sibling relationship.
