Couple’s night-time check-in at the public cargo loading and unloading area in the Western District risked offending officials

Today (5th) around 1:00 a.m., a couple in their 30s climbed over a 3-meter-high iron gate and sneaked into the public cargo loading and unloading area of the Western District to wander around and check in for “Crazy Hunting”. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and intercepted the couple involved after some searching. After investigation, they believed that the two had no criminal intent and the incident did not involve criminal elements. They registered the information of the two and gave verbal warnings. They were later released to leave on their own.

The Western District Public Cargo Handling Area, commonly known as the Western Pier, used to be a hotspot for check-in and was known as the “mirror of Hong Kong’s sky”. In the past, many citizens would go there to take pictures on weekends. However, the former check-in hotspot has long since become a restricted area. The Marine Department closed the West Ring Pier on March 1 of the previous year without notifying the public and councilors. The public must present a valid security card or work permit to enter.
