Couple who met in Portugal almost 10 years ago, marry in Cork

Love Knows No Borders: Emer Murphy and Spencer Trigg Tie the Knot After Nearly a Decade

Emer Murphy from Cork and Spencer Trigg from the UK made headlines this summer as they celebrated their long-awaited wedding. Meeting in Portugal almost a decade ago, the couple marked their nine-year anniversary by saying "I do" in an emotional ceremony at Castlemartyr Resort in East Cork on May 29, 2024.

A Story of Romance Across Continents

Emer and Spencer’s journey began on May 29, 2015, when they crossed paths in Portugal. Emer reminisced about that fateful day: “I relocated to the UK after a year together.” Their love blossomed, leading to the birth of their twin sons, Jude and Hugo, in 2018. The couple got engaged during a memorable trip to Pompeii while celebrating Emer’s 40th birthday on the stunning Amalfi Coast.

Fast forward to their wedding day, which held special significance as it coincided with their nine-year anniversary. “After much consideration, we decided on the beautiful Castlemartyr Resort for our wedding. The grounds, the Manor House, and the ballroom are just magnificent,” Emer shared.

A Dream Wedding at Castlemartyr Resort

On a picturesque summer day, the couple exchanged vows in a civil ceremony amid the stunning landscapes of the Castlemartyr Resort, with its beautiful fountain and breathtaking views of the castle serving as the backdrop. Friends and family traveled from far and wide, including guests from the UK and Dubai, to witness this beautiful union.

Emer’s emotions ran deep on this special day: “I walked down the aisle with my twin sons Jude and Hugo to my mum’s favorite song, ‘Something’s Got A Hold Of My Heart’ by Gene Pitney. Mum passed away 10 years ago this year, so it was very emotional.”

Her father, who has limited mobility, took over when Emer reached the top of the aisle, proudly giving her away to Spencer.

Elegant Attire and Thoughtful Details

The couple’s attention to detail was evident throughout the day. Emer chose a stunning dress designed by Alexandra Grecco, sourced from the White and Gold boutique in Kinsale, and accessorized her look with elegant Jimmy Choo shoes. “I wore pearl earrings that were my ‘something borrowed’ from my mother-in-law, a veil from my sister-in-law, and my ‘something blue’ were the flowers from the amazing Maura at Petals,” she mentioned.

Emer’s hair was styled by Cathyanne Bridal, while Lizzy Desmond created her flawless makeup look. Spencer made a statement in a suit he designed himself, tailor-made by William Young in the UK, complementing his unique sense of style. His wedding party included five groomsmen, two of whom were his brothers, who stood by him as best men.

Emer’s sisters and niece served as bridesmaids, while their sons were page boys and four of Emer’s nieces joyfully took on the role of flower girls.

Celebrating in Style

The day was a musical celebration, featuring a ceremony performance by singer Deborah Murphy, who also entertained guests during the drinks reception. The evening’s festivities were brought to life by the electrifying band “The Riff Shop,” who kept the crowd dancing and continued to fuel the celebratory atmosphere. The couple’s first dance was to "My Head Is a Jungle," a cherished song remixed by MK.

Photographers Ray and Irene Terry captured the day beautifully, while Gordon from WedFilms provided videography to document their unforgettable moments.

Reflections on a Love Story

Emer and Spencer’s love story is inspiring—not only for its endurance over nearly a decade but for the joy and connection they share as a family now residing in Berkhamsted. The couple has navigated the complexities of a transnational relationship and now stand united, stronger than ever.

As they embark on this new chapter surrounded by love, family, and friends, they serve as a reminder that love truly knows no borders. This touching celebration in Cork is sure to resonate with anyone who cherishes lifelong commitments, emotions, and the joys of family.
