Couple Spends Retirement Years on a Cruise Ship: Cheaper and More Fun Than a Nursing Home

Jakarta

This elderly couple chose to spend their old age on a cruise ship rather than living in a nursing home. They say it’s cheaper and more fun.

The elderly couple is Marty and Jesse Ansen from Australia. They have lived on the cruise ship for more than 450 days or 15 months.

Marty and Jesse started trying to book cruise ship tickets for June 2022. That was after they believed that living on a cruise ship was cheaper than being in a nursing home. They also booked 51 consecutive cruise ship trips.

“We were on the ship longer than anyone else. Trips changed but we stayed on the ship,” Marty told A Current Affair and was quoted as saying Silence.

Agreeing with her partner, Jess then said that, as a couple, they regularly welcome the yacht’s captain, Ren van Rooyen.

“We always joke when we leave and come back. And, it feels like I came to see my family, my mother and father again. Yes, they are like my second mother and father on the ship,” said Van Royen.

Apart from the hotel manager, the other crew members also started to treat the Ansen family as family. In fact, Jess got a surprise on the boat for her birthday last month.

This couple has spent at least 450 days exploring the world on a cruise ship. They admitted that they were not bored in the slightest.

After waking up, they routinely played table tennis for about an hour.

“We did it together and had a great time,” Jess said.

Jess says table tennis is good for increasing your appetite.

Early last week, the pair docked in Sydney as the Coral Princess restocked and underwent preparations for its next round trip to Hawaii.

After another eight months on the Coral Princess cruise ship, Marty and Jess will spend a few months ashore then return to sailing on another cruise ship, the Crown Princess, for a year.

“We’ve forgotten how to shower, we’ve forgotten how to make our beds, because we haven’t done it in a long time. So now we have to stay on the ship to stay alive,” Marty joked.

“All your meals are prepared, you don’t have to cook, you go to the show every night and go dancing after the show, then you go to dinner and go back to your cabin,” Jess chimed in.
